●  The Tehri Dam is a multi-purpose rock and earth-fill embankment dam on the Bhagirathi River near Tehri in Uttarakhand, which is the primary dam of the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation Ltd.

●  Tehri Dam withholds a reservoir for irrigation, municipal water supply and the generation of 1,000 MW of hydroelectricity.

●  It has been the object of protests by environmental organizations and local people of the region.

●  The Alaknanda system drains parts of Chamoli, Tehri, and Pauri districts.

●  Bhilanganga is traditionally considered the source of both the Bhagirathi and the Ganges and flows into the Bhagirathi at Old Tehri, the site of the Tehri dam.
