Rift valley region

A rift valley is a lowland region that forms where Earth’s tectonic plates move apart, or rift.

Rift valleys are found both on land and at the bottom of the ocean, where they are created by the process of seafloor spreading.

Rift valleys differ from river valleys and glacial valleys in that they are created by tectonic activity and not the process of erosion.

Rift Valley The most well-known rift valley on Earth is probably the so-called "Great Rift Valley System" which stretches from the Middle East in the north to Mozambique in the south.

The Narmada and the Tapi rivers flow through the rift valley in India.

Narmada river originates on the west side of the Amarkantak plateau and flows in a rift valley between the Satpura ranges in the South and the Vindhya range in the North.

Tapi river is also a westward flowing river, and It originates from Multai in Madhya Pradesh.

Chhattisgarh plain

Chhattisgarh Plain, plain, central India, forming the upper Mahanadi River basin.

It is bounded by the Chota Nagpur plateau to the north, the Raigarh hills to the northeast, the Raipur Upland to the southeast, the Bastar plateau to the south, and the Maikala Range to the west.

A vast undulating tract, the plain consists of rich rice fields.

Cotton and oilseeds are the important commercial crops of the region.

Extensive coal deposits and substantial deposits of iron ore, bauxite, manganese, and commercial clays have aided its development.

Chhota Nagpur plateau

The Chota Nagpur Plateau is a plateau in eastern India, which covers much of Jharkhand state as well as adjacent parts of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal and Bihar.

The Indo-Gangetic plain lies to the north and east of the plateau, and the basin of the Mahanadi river lies to the south.

The Gondwana substrates attest to the plateau's ancient origin.

It is part of the Deccan Plate, which broke free from the southern continent during the Cretaceous to embark on a 50-million-year journey that was interrupted by the collision with the Eurasian continent.

The Ranchi Plateau is the largest part of the Chota Nagpur Plateau.

The Damodar River originates here and flows through a rift valley.

Chota Nagpur plateau is a store house of mineral resources such as mica, bauxite, copper, limestone, iron ore and coal.

Rain shadow region

A rain shadow is a patch of land that has been forced to become a desert because mountain ranges blocked all plant-growing, rainy weather.

On one side of the mountain, wet weather systems drop rain and snow.

On the other side of the mountain—the rain shadow side—all that precipitation is blocked.

The eastern side of the Sahyadri ranges on the Deccan Plateau including: North Karnataka and Solapur, Beed, Osmanabad, the Vidharba Plateau and the eastern side of Kerala and western Tamil Nadu in India.

The Thar Desert is bounded and rain shadowed by the Aravalli ranges to the southeast, the Himalaya to the northeast, and the Kirthar and Sulaiman ranges to the west.
