It is the innermost layer surrounding the earth’s centre.
The core is separated from the mantle by Guttenberg’s Discontinuity.
It is composed mainly of iron (Fe) and nickel (Ni) and hence it is also called NIFE.
The core constitutes nearly 15% of the earth’s volume and 32.5% of the earth’s mass.
The core is the densest layer of the earth with its density ranging between 9.5-14.5g/cm3.
The Core consists of two sub-layers: the inner core and the outer core.
The inner core is in a solid state and the outer core is in a liquid state (or semi-liquid).
The discontinuity between the upper core and the lower core is called Lehmann Discontinuity.

यह पृथ्वी के केंद्र के चारों ओर की सबसे भीतरी परत है।
कोर (Core) को मेंटल (Mantle) से गुटेनबर्ग असंततता (Guttenberg’s Discontinuity) द्वारा अलग किया गया है।
यह मुख्य रूप से लोहे (Fe) और निकल (Ni) से बना है और इसलिए इसे नाइफे (NIFE) भी कहा जाता है।
कोर पृथ्वी के आयतन का लगभग 15% और पृथ्वी के द्रव्यमान का 32.5% बनाता है।
कोर पृथ्वी की सबसे सघन परत है जिसकी घनत्व 9.5-14.5 ग्राम/सेमी³ के बीच होती है।
कोर में दो उप-परतें होती हैं: आंतरिक कोर (Inner Core) और बाहरी कोर (Outer Core)।
आंतरिक कोर ठोस अवस्था में है और बाहरी कोर तरल (या अर्ध-तरल) अवस्था में है।
ऊपरी कोर और निचली कोर के बीच की असंततता को लेहमैन असंततता (Lehmann Discontinuity) कहा जाता है।
