Dr. Zakir Hussain (1897 – 1969)

He was an Indian educationist and politician who served as Vice President of India from 1962 to 1967 and President of India from 13 May 1967 until his death on 3 May 1969.

He was the first incumbent to die in office in 1969 and has had the shortest tenure of any President.

He was a founding member of the Jamia Milia Islamia of which he served as Vice-chancellor during 1926 to 1948.

He served on the Executive Board of the UNESCO during 1957-58.

He was closely associated with Mahatma Gandhi and was chairman of the Basic National Education Committee (Wardha Scheme of Education - 1937) which framed a new educational policy known as Nai Talim with its emphasis on free and compulsory education in the first language.

India’s National Policy on Education of 1968, 1988 and 2020 all draw on the ideas contained in the Wardha Scheme of Basic National Education.

He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1954 and Bharat Ratna in 1963.

K.R. Narayanan (1920 – 2005)

He was an Indian statesman, diplomat, academic, and politician who served as the ninth Vice President of India from 1992 to 1997 and tenth President of India from 1997 to 2002.

He was the first person from the Dalit community to hold either post (President and Vice President).

Narayanan began his career in India as a member of the Indian Foreign Service in the Nehru administration.

He served as ambassador to Japan, United Kingdom, Thailand, Turkey, China and United States.

He was referred to by Nehru as the best diplomat of the country.

He also served as a Vice Chancellor of JNU in 1979-80.

When he entered in politics, he won three successive general elections to the Lok Sabha and served as a Minister of State in Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's cabinet.

He was the President of India during the Kargil conflict of 1999.

V.V. Giri (1894-1980)

Varahagiri Venkata Giri was an Indian politician and activist from Berhampur in Odisha who served as the 4th president of India from 24 August 1969 to 24 August 1974.

He was also 3rd vice president of India from 13 May 1967 to 3 May 1969.

He is the first president to be elected as an independent candidate.

In 1923, along with a few others, he founded the All India Railwaymen’s Federation and served as its General Secretary for more than ten years.

In 1926, he was elected President of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC).

He attended several international gatherings such as the International Labour Conference and the Trade Union Congress, both held at Geneva in 1927, and the Second Round Table Conference in London as the Workers' Representative in 1931-1932.

He also created the Bengal Nagpur Railway Association.

He was awarded the Bharat Ratna, in 1975, for his contributions in the area of public affairs.

वराहगिरी वेंकट गिरि ओडिशा के बेरहामपुर से एक भारतीय राजनेता और कार्यकर्ता थे जिन्होंने 24 अगस्त 1969 से 24 अगस्त 1974 तक भारत के 4th राष्ट्रपति के रूप में सेवा की।

Gopal Swarup Pathak was the fourth vice president of India from August 1969 to August 1974.

He was the first Indian vice president not to succeed his superior as President.

He was the judge in Allahabad High Court 1945-46

Basappa Danappa Jatti was the fifth vice president of India, serving from 1974 to 1979.

He was acting President of India from 11 February to 25 July 1977.

He also served as the Chief Minister of Karnataka.

His autobiography, 'I'm my own model', is very popular.

बी.डी. जत्ती (1912 – 2002)

बसप्पा दानप्पा जट्टी भारत के पांचवें उपराष्ट्रपति थे, जिन्होंने 1974 से 1979 तक सेवा की।
