Hypothalamus

Hypothalamus is present at the centre of the human brain, near the pituitary gland.

It carries out the following important functions :

It is responsible for homeostasis, i.e. maintaining the body’s internal balance.

It connects the endocrine and the nervous system.

It also plays an important role in regulating the body temperature.

It also releases hormones such as somatostatin and oxytocin.

हाइपोथैलेमस (Hypothalamus) मानव मस्तिष्क के केंद्र में, पिट्यूटरी ग्रंथि (pituitary gland) के पास स्थित होता है।

यह निम्नलिखित महत्वपूर्ण कार्य करता है:

यह होमियोस्टेसिस (homeostasis) के लिए जिम्मेदार है, अर्थात् शरीर के आंतरिक संतुलन को बनाए रखना।

यह एंडोक्राइन (endocrine) और तंत्रिका तंत्र (nervous system) को जोड़ता है।

यह शरीर के तापमान को नियंत्रित करने में भी महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाता है।

यह हॉर्मोन (hormones) जैसे सोमैटोस्टेटिन (somatostatin) और ऑक्सीटोसिन (oxytocin) भी रिलीज करता है।

Temperature regulation by Hypothalamus

The temperature of the human body is regulated by a part of the brain called the hypothalamus.

The hypothalamus checks the current temperature of the body and compares it with the normal temperature of about 37°C.

If it finds that the temperature is too low, the hypothalamus makes sure that the body generates and maintains heat.

हाइपोथैलेमस द्वारा तापमान का नियमन।

मानव शरीर के तापमान को मस्तिष्क के एक भाग जिसे हाइपोथैलेमस (hypothalamus) कहते हैं, द्वारा नियंत्रित किया जाता है।

हाइपोथैलेमस (hypothalamus) शरीर के वर्तमान तापमान की जांच करता है और इसे लगभग 37°C के सामान्य तापमान से तुलना करता है।

Pituitary gland

Pituitary gland (also known as hypophysis) is a small, pea-sized gland located at the base of the brain below the hypothalamus.

It is an endocrine gland and it is often referred to as the 'master gland', because it controls several of the other hormone glands.

It regulates growth, metabolism, and reproduction through the hormones that it produces. The production of these hormones is either stimulated or inhibited by chemical messages sent from the hypothalamus to the pituitary.

The posterior lobe produces two hormones, vasopressin and oxytocin.

Pituitary gland disorders include acromegaly, Cushing's syndrome, diabetes insipidus, empty sella syndrome, hypopituitarism and pituitary tumors.
